A hike in Vercors foothills

After saying goodbye to Provence yesterday, we moved closer to the Lyon airport, and settled on the outskirts of Romans-sur-Isere for two nights.  It was the end of a holiday weekend...after covering about 60 miles in 6 hours with even tertiary roads regularly coming to a standstill, we no longer want to hear any negative comments from French people about traffic in LA...

With a day left and an iffy weather forecast, we opted for an easy hike in Royans - a little valley in the foothills of the sheer Vercors massif. The walk went through farms and forests, and the kids loved all the farm animals. But the dandelions were the biggest hit:

And a mountain stream to throw rocks into:

And everywhere, the spring was in full swing:
Overall, we covered 4.5 miles in a few hours - a record for the kids. They were tired:
